I love helping people create new head shots because I never know who I’m going to get to work with.
Carla contacted me after being recommended by a prior client (Thank you, Kate!). She was going to toss her hat into the political ring and run for Senate, and she needed a new head shot.
Carla was an absolute joy to work with. She was so friendly and she had great humor. She grew up in Africa and she wanted to wear a few things that hark back to her home.
I love her smile and her adorable pixie hair cut and she had she was just so warm and friendly and a joy to be around. I really liked photographing her and working with her.
I also get a kick when I see an image I created being used for things like billboards:
I had a very bad experience a few years ago with an image I took of someone and that head shot was taken by someone else and used politically in an attack print advertisement without my permission or knowledge. It’s taken a few years to get comfortable enough when someone approaches me asking about creating an image that will specifically be used for a political reason. Carla was so energized that she helped me feel comfortable making an image that was going to be used for that purpose.
I would love to photograph her again.
Occasionally I get gigs where I can't show the work; private clients or commercial shoots where part of the contract is they have control over how the images are used. While I don't provide any less effort for the job, it stings a little when I can't share anything from the production. But that is how it goes sometimes, and I'm not complaining. The pay is good and I really love working for this particular client.
A few months ago I was hired by a company for a series of head shots on white. Nenna, pictured above, was an assistant to the project manager on the gig and I'd pass her in the hallway or see her in the room we were setup in and she had such a striking face and her hair was gorgeous. I kept hoping that I'd be able to photograph her at the end of production, and when I asked if i could grab a portrait of her, she happily said yes.
I can share these two images of Nenna, because they were not part of the hired/contracted job, and because I photographed her after the completion of the hired work. In this instance, I got full permission from the Project Manager when I asked if I could share these shots of Nenna.
She's absolutely gorgeous. Such beautiful features.
Over the years I've developed a friendship with Michael Bellar and the boys of the AS/IS Ensemble. I've shot them a few times now. I took some images for Michael the last time they played in Nashua for their upcoming album. The album is still being prepared, but I wanted to share some of these with you all.Read More
