Hannah Sanders!

Hannah Sanders!

In celebration of Hannah's new album hitting streets in a few weeks:

I've worked with Folk musician/ singer/songwriter Hannah Sanders a few times now. I enjoy being in Hannah's company; we have the same type of humor and I love laughing with her and listening to her British accent. She moved back to the U.K. a few years ago, but in August 2014 she came back to the States for come concert dates and she wanted to get together and create some new images for her forthcoming album and promotional images.

My #1 piece of advice when shooting in a studio:

Have the subject step further away from the backdrop. I see it over and over and over again. Subject's too close. It picks up the wrinkles in the fabric, or the paper, or whatever. It tosses shadows on the backdrop.

You can eliminate most of these issues by simply having the subject take four more steps than where you would normally put them. If they seem close to the backdrop, they are. Move 'em away from there. Get them in a free space, away from the backdrop.

BYOC House/Studio Concert Series: AMY PETTY!!! Oct 12th 2014 @ 3pm

Amy Petty • Studio/House Concert • Sunday Oct 12, 2014 @ 3pm

Guys. Girls. Gang. Seriously.

Amy moved away a few years ago across the country. I miss her something terrible.

She contacted me saying she's going to be swinging through New England for a week in October. I wanted to hear her play live music to me. So I suggested a House Concert here at the studio, to close out the 2014 series of "Bring-Your-Own-Chair" concerts. She excitedly said YES!

So she's going to be performing here at the studio on Sunday, October 12th 2014 at 3pm in the afternoon. It's Colombus Day weekend. You all should be available. Especially in the afternoon.

$15 donation at the door. Then come and buy some of her cds. Listen to her amazing voice, her amazing songwriting, her amazing EVERYTHING.

I want the studio packed. I want to send her home with a wallet full of cash and a bunch of new friends.

Because she's just that damn good.

Holy Crap! I'm now a contributing writer to DEDPXL!

DEDPXL

Holy. Crap. holycrapholycrapholycrapholycrap.

A few weeks ago I left a comment on one of Photographer Zack Arias' blog posts over at his DEDPXL website. It inspired him. So much so he took what I wrote and turned that into a post about inspiration. Totally awesome. I commented a few times in that post, and soon after, Zack emailed me asking me if I'd consider becoming a monthly contributor to DEDPXL.

After I finished staring at my email with my mouth agape, I told him YES I WOULD BE HONORED TO BE PART OF DEDPXL!

One comment. Well, it took 10 years to lead up to that one comment and suddenly I was put on Zack's radar. And he felt I have enough to talk about that he wants me to be part of his world. Crazy? Absolutely. And totally awesome. And really scary. But totally awesome.

My first post is going up in a few minutes. Scary.

This absolutely proves that you never know who is watching/reading/listening. One minute you are doing your laundry and leaving a comment on someone's blog. The next you are sharing an adventure. This is an adventure I absolutely want to be part of.

To those who are visiting my website courtesy of DEDPXL: HELLO!!!

Today may be the beginning of the end... or the end of the beginning... or the beginning of the beguine.

I used to roll my eyes when people would post on Facebook about the death of a celebrity and talk about their pain and how their heart is sad. I thought they were being dramatic. Exaggerating.

Yesterday, Robin Williams died.

Now I understand what they were trying to express.

Growing up as a very shy child, Robin showed me that it was okay to be myself. To make people laugh. As I became older he showed me that it was okay to age with humor. Getting older doesn't mean you have to let go of who you really are inside.

My wife laughs every day because, in part, of a small hairy man who was a pure comic tornado showing me that it doesn't matter what anyone thinks - be yourself, express how you want to express, and, most importantly, make 'em laugh.

Yesterday we lost that whirlwind. Though I didn't know him, his tornado touched me in my heart and in my funny bones.

Michael Bellar & As Is Ensemble * Oh No Oh Wow

Oh No Oh Wow by Michael Bellar & the AS-IS Ensemble

Hey y'all - just a quick note this Sunday morning to let you all know that Michael Bellar's new album "Oh No Oh Wow" has finally released. I've been waiting a long time for this. Every time I've talked to Michael over the phone I've been hounding him about when this was coming out. Well, wait no more.

You can stream it up above to give you an idea of how awesome it is. Then, drop 10 clams for either the digital or a hard copy and grooooooove.

This is his best album yet. I can't stop playing the CD.

Get it. Got it? Gooooood.
