tick tock, tick tock
A little while ago I went through a "turn-it-into-a-clock" phase. Darkroom timer? Make it a clock. Vinyl record? Make it a clock. Old Playstation console? Yup. Let's make it a lock.
I now have no problems knowing what time it is in the studio as I'm surrounded by make-shift clocks.
I thought the red hands were a nice touch in my honest opinion. :)
I've read and collected comic books my entire life. I pretty much learned to read when I was a tiny person by trying to figure out words in the balloons on comic pages. There is a special place in my heart for characters like Green Lantern and Green Arrow and Airwave and Iron Man and many, many, many more. So many.
When the Hippo phoned me up asking if I would photograph some local cosplayers for a cover story I practically jumped through the phone with an excited YES! The paper scheduled four cosplayers to come by the studio one evening so we could make some images that would be featured on the cover as well as serve as the main story for that issue.

Spent some time with my Daft Punk action figures and some small LED christmas lights.
I recently picked up their album "Random Access Memories" on vinyl. I have the cd, but the vinyl release sounds so much warmer.
Josh and Owen are brothers. They are into anime and games and the same kinds of stuff that I love. They both wanted some headshots to use as they both approach graduating from high school. Josh (the older brother) wants to get into anime voice acting. How cool is that?
They both came up with their mom Amy from Massachusetts and we spent the morning making headshots and talking about all the pop-culture stuff I have hanging on the walls here at the studio. Before they left we got a shot of the two of them together (above)
Both of these guys were great. We hung a bit to help them relax, but they both photographed fantastically, and I know they were both happy. Mom even emailed me towards the end of the year to let me know Owen was already saving up for another session down the road.
I can make you look just as good. I love making clean, clear, crisp headshots. Consider hiring me if you happen to read this and are thinking about it. At least come visit me at the studio so we can chat a bit. That's free :)

I recently nabbed my Force FX Lightsabers out of storage and brought them to the studio to house them on the wall. I've always wanted to find a simplistic mounting option that didn't look big or bulky, and after doing a little internet searching, I found out that Force FX Lightsaber handles fit perfectly in these mounting brackets made for Maglite flashlights.
They just screw right into the wall and after popping the handles in them, you can hardly see them, and it looks like the lightsabers are floating off the wall a few inches. The above image was taken a few moments after getting all three installed. How awesome is that!!
If you are a nutjob like me and have to have lightsabers, these are the classiest, simplistic way of displaying them. So excellent. Click the small image above to order them through Amazon.
While doing an assignment for The Hippo at a local shoe store, I tripped on one of these foot measure devices and instantly flashed back to a little kid; the store associate bending down and slipping my socked-foot into one of these to get exact measurements on my foot. It was pretty awesome. I picked this little guy up and placed him on the seat next to me, and I loved the texture on the seat and the highlights from the lights overhead reflecting on the seat and the device. It made a nice black & white image, and I think it's fantastic.

I LOVE the 1978 movie Alien. The atmosphere, the design, the cast, the ambience, the pacing - everything is just darn perfect. Toy company NECA has been making figures based on the movie Alien and it's franchise, and I've been picking some up, making some dioramas here at the studio and making some more "cinematic" photographs using the toys. I wanted to share a little about how I'm making them and share some of them here on the blog.

an homage of Donald Byrd’s “A New Perspective” cover
I love record and album design. Part of what I hope to do as a photographer is make images and help musicians design album covers for their releases. I love the square format of album covers. And nobody has made better album covers than the jazz music label Blue Note Records. There was a period in the 1950's and 1960's where Blue Note was producing what I consider the greatest album design in history. I wanted to share a little bit about it and why I love it so much.
