Jeanine Collins Malarsky is a local NH author who found me by way of our NH Chronicle feature from late 2019. She was in the process of updating her website and social media content and preparing to release a new book, and she wanted a more professional headshot than the image she had been using.
I had Jeanine come by the studio prior to any booking so we could chat a bit and so she could get a good feel for how I am. I could tell she was a little nervous about sitting for a headshot session so I wanted to show her that I pose no threat and that I’m a pretty good guy. I wanted to establish a connection so that if she did go ahead and book with me, she’d already know me when she came for the actual session. I happily answered her questions and I think she got a good feeling about me.
For this particular session I broke out my posing table. I don’t normally use it, but I didn’t want Jeanine standing. I also knew that I wanted to incorporate her hands into the headshot, and having her sit at the posing table would allow me to get more interaction with her hands.
I wanted something friendly and inviting. Something that made you feel like you were with her while she was telling you a story.
While we were shooting, I would change my angle slightly so that you are slightly looking up towards her:
I love this look. She feels so warm and friendly. She makes me smile just looking at her.
I tried to leave negative space on one side of her, because I knew that she wanted a few images that she could use for social media. By leaving space on the side, she could drop in text and use some of these images as website and social media banners:
Jeanine was a joy to photograph. You can visit her website here. Make sure you check out all of her publications.
If you would be interested in having a new headshot photographed by me, don’t hesitate to contact me today and book your session!
