High School Senior Portraits: Christian

On top of my love for music photography and portraits, I also spend a good deal of time working on personal photography projects centered about things that are important to me throughout my life. I've been neglecting my more personal photography work for a while now, and I'm hoping that I can correct that, and reintroduce my personal work to a new audience.  There are links available on my fine art website HERE.

Dave's Bowler Hat

Dave

How can you not love this image?

Dave has been looking for a hat for a while now.  Partly because he wants to find out what kind of hat will fit his head shape, and partly because he's thinking of joining the Cowboy Action Shooting League, and he's working on creating his persona, "Porkchop Chang".

He's been thinking about bowler hats for a while now - because "Oddjob" from the James Bond film had one, and he got to thinking that maybe it would fit his head shape as well.  So when a hat he bought arrived in the mail, I told him to c'mon down to the studio and we'd take some photographs of him wearing it so he could see how it looks on his head.

I did a little post-production on the image to make it feel like it was taken some time ago, back when people wore hats like this out and about.

I think it looks pretty good.  I think the brim of the hat could be a little wider and come out over his ears more, but overall I love the look and shape it gives him.  Plus, I just love hats, so any chance to photograph a friend in a lid is a-ok with me :)

Shoot for Yourself.

Nathan

I love this shot so much.

When doing assignment photography, don't forget to shoot for yourself as well. Get what is needed, and take an extra few minutes to get a shot for yourself.

I got to photograph in an operating room at a local hospital, and at the end of the shoot, I had this image in my mind. I plopped him in front of one of their operating lights, and used a second operating light off to the side to light him.

I love this shot.

If I hadn't of taken the extra few minutes I would never have gotten this. Shoot for yourself just as you shoot for the client. The two should go together. I love this portrait.

Magic, Do As You Will: The Last Unicorn & Peter S. Beagle

Magic, Do As You Will: The Last Unicorn & Peter S. Beagle

I got to spend a little time with “The Last Unicorn” author Peter S. Beagle during an event at Red River Theatres. The Last Unicorn animated film is one of my all time favorites. I can’t believe I got to make a portrait of the man that created it.

Read all about it after the cut.

I'd Like To Thank the Academy. . .

I'd Like To Thank the Academy. . .

I love movies.  Love.  I'd tell you how many Laserdiscs, DVDs and Blu-ray's I own but you might call me insane, so I won't.  But I love movies.  Since I was a kid.

I've been trying to work with Red River Theatres more.  You might know them as Concord's awesome independent cinema.  You might also know them as the awesomesauce theatre that helped me propose to Sara.  How can I not want to work with them?  They show movies and they helped me show my own little proposal trailer?  They rule.

More after the cut. . .

Gary • Vintage Scoot for Scootering Magazine

I've known Gary for some years now.  I met him through Dave Seah.  Gary has done a bunch of awesome stuff in his life, and recently he's turned is attention into restoring and creating his own fabricated custom parts for old scooters, particularly old vintage Lambretta scooters.   He creates custom trim, molding, accessories and more for these little babies turning them into custom one-of-a-kind scooters.

UK magazine Scootering was going to be doing a feature on two of his recently restored/custom scooters and he hired me to take some photographs.

The Halo / Master Chief Series

The Halo / Master Chief Series

I'm a Nerd.  And a Dork.  And possibly a Geek as well.  My whole life has been about video games and toys and comics and movies and. . .

I've been trying to incorporate my geek passions into my photography when I can.  It isn't as often as I like, and when the chance comes up I try to jump on it.

So when a friend makes a suit of Halo armor out of stiffened cardboard?  Holy shit, YES!

Private Instruction / Workshop

Private Instruction / Workshop

I got a chance to do a private instruction/workshop back in September and I really really enjoyed it.

Usually my workshops consist of up to 8 attendees.  I like keeping groups small.  We usually go until sundown so I feel that people get a very good value for what they pay and feedback is always positive in that people are learning how to use their brains and figure stuff out so they can take control of their images.  It's a good feeling helping people understand what they are doing.
