I love movies. Love. I'd tell you how many Laserdiscs, DVDs and Blu-ray's I own but you might call me insane, so I won't. But I love movies. Since I was a kid.
I've been trying to work with Red River Theatres more. You might know them as Concord's awesome independent cinema. You might also know them as the awesomesauce theatre that helped me propose to Sara. How can I not want to work with them? They show movies and they helped me show my own little proposal trailer? They rule.
Every year they host an Academy Awards party, where they broadcast the Oscar's on one of their big screens and everyone dresses up and they have a red carpet and fake hosts who interview the guests and ask what they are wearing. They have trivia and prizes and it's awesome. It's movie fans all getting together to celebrate movies. My kind of people.
For 2015 I wanted to be involved. I got a chance to do a little set up in one of their rooms and photograph guests as if they were Hollywood royalty. Nice, stark, black and white portraits of them right after they've arrived.
What I didn't expect, was that they put me right next to a podium that had an honest to goodness Oscar. An Academy Award! It was a screenwriting award (Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium Ernest Thompson ) from 1982's "On Golden Pond". I got to hold it. It was heavy. And awesome. And amazing.
So when people came in, we handed them the Oscar, and they stood for me to snap a portrait of them.
I loved every second of it. I love these. Just simple black and white. I'm hoping they will use these to promote next years event.
I love movies. I love people that love movies.
See you at next years event!
