I love helping people create new head shots because I never know who I’m going to get to work with.

Like Carla.

Carla contacted me after being recommended by a prior client (Thank you, Kate!). She was going to toss her hat into the political ring and run for Senate, and she needed a new head shot.

Absolutely.

Carla was an absolute joy to work with. She was so friendly and she had great humor. She grew up in Africa and she wanted to wear a few things that hark back to her home.

I love her smile and her adorable pixie hair cut and she had she was just so warm and friendly and a joy to be around. I really liked photographing her and working with her.

I also get a kick when I see an image I created being used for things like billboards:

I had a very bad experience a few years ago with an image I took of someone and that head shot was taken by someone else and used politically in an attack print advertisement without my permission or knowledge. It’s taken a few years to get comfortable enough when someone approaches me asking about creating an image that will specifically be used for a political reason. Carla was so energized that she helped me feel comfortable making an image that was going to be used for that purpose.

I would love to photograph her again.

HACK ATTACK!

My websites for Sid Ceaser Photography, Sid Ceaser Fine Art, the Portable Portrait workshop and Sara Ceaser's website were hacked a few days ago and damage was done.

Most of ceaserphotography.com is back up, but the other three are currently down as the structure is rebuilt for those sites.

If you were looking for those specific sites, please pardon as attempts are made to get those sites back to working condition as soon as possible.

I've always surrounded myself with music - in my primary school days I was buying cassettes and records and would sit at home and just listen and digest all these forms of music; from rock to new-age to film soundtracks to rap - I would just absorb it like a sponge. And that has never changed and there isn't a time when I'm not listening to music. I recently brought a record player and all my records to my photography studio so I can spin while I'm working on client images, and I always have a playlist going when I'm photographing someone or something.

I'm not in any way a music critic, nor do I contain a music critics vernacular, but I thought I'd mention a few artists/albums I've been playing a lot lately and maybe find some new ears and make them a few new fans, because they are all awesome.

Lauren had wanted to work with me for many years but it was never the right time until recently when she needed an updated headshot for her business and LinkedIn pages. But as you can see from the image above, this session became much more than a headshot session.

Playstation Clock

tick tock, tick tock

A little while ago I went through a "turn-it-into-a-clock" phase. Darkroom timer? Make it a clock. Vinyl record? Make it a clock. Old Playstation console? Yup. Let's make it a lock.

I now have no problems knowing what time it is in the studio as I'm surrounded by make-shift clocks.

I thought the red hands were a nice touch in my honest opinion. :)

COSPLAY SAVES THE WORLD!

I've read and collected comic books my entire life. I pretty much learned to read when I was a tiny person by trying to figure out words in the balloons on comic pages. There is a special place in my heart for characters like Green Lantern and Green Arrow and Airwave and Iron Man and many, many, many more. So many.

When the Hippo phoned me up asking if I would photograph some local cosplayers for a cover story I practically jumped through the phone with an excited YES! The paper scheduled four cosplayers to come by the studio one evening so we could make some images that would be featured on the cover as well as serve as the main story for that issue.

Random Access Memories

Spent some time with my Daft Punk action figures and some small LED christmas lights.

I recently picked up their album "Random Access Memories" on vinyl. I have the cd, but the vinyl release sounds so much warmer.

Josh & Owen

Josh and Owen are brothers. They are into anime and games and the same kinds of stuff that I love. They both wanted some headshots to use as they both approach graduating from high school. Josh (the older brother) wants to get into anime voice acting. How cool is that?

They both came up with their mom Amy from Massachusetts and we spent the morning making headshots and talking about all the pop-culture stuff I have hanging on the walls here at the studio. Before they left we got a shot of the two of them together (above)

Both of these guys were great. We hung a bit to help them relax, but they both photographed fantastically, and I know they were both happy. Mom even emailed me towards the end of the year to let me know Owen was already saving up for another session down the road.

I can make you look just as good. I love making clean, clear, crisp headshots. Consider hiring me if you happen to read this and are thinking about it. At least come visit me at the studio so we can chat a bit. That's free :)

an elegant weapon of a more civilized age

I recently nabbed my Force FX Lightsabers out of storage and brought them to the studio to house them on the wall. I've always wanted to find a simplistic mounting option that didn't look big or bulky, and after doing a little internet searching, I found out that Force FX Lightsaber handles fit perfectly in these mounting brackets made for Maglite flashlights.

They just screw right into the wall and after popping the handles in them, you can hardly see them, and it looks like the lightsabers are floating off the wall a few inches. The above image was taken a few moments after getting all three installed. How awesome is that!!

If you are a nutjob like me and have to have lightsabers, these are the classiest, simplistic way of displaying them. So excellent. Click the small image above to order them through Amazon.
